Maximal Joins the Disco Bandits
Typical Tavern
subtitle: Side-Quest pre- 8-bit Live RP

By Max Thordicus
Original Roleplay

Maximal Thordicus shares his surname, supposedly the sign of a certain shared guild from their past, with Edd Thordicus although the latter goes by his better known name of Sir Fumblie Falanges.

The two debut together during AIL's eighth missionboard Live RP, during the third and final act of a side trip from the main mission to an 8 bit world. Although it was literally a side quest from the main mission, having little to do with it other than the beginning and end, it was by far the longest piece to a Live RP as well and an entertaining little diversion from the long running Knob Goblin verses. KoKOL storylines that had dominated AIL for some time before and during the mission.

This piece was written after, as a lead in to it. It sets up Maximal Thordicus as a member of the Disco Bandit guild. Enjoy.

*** OOC New character. This was a test-run live RP to pre-date the 8-Bit Live RP that was the first piece of work I did here. The DM wanted me to get some experience, and as you read on you will realize that I did something I wasn't expecting just out of the characters nature. And I am not sure that the he thought it was coming either. Welcome to the joys of a live RP. I hope you enjoy this breakdown of it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maximal entered the Guildhouse and asked to speak to someone in charge. A Man appearing to Max to have the looks of a thief pointed him in the right direction, then as the conversation continued Max found that the man he was talking too was the person he had been seeking. Max, at the Urging of his horse (a familiar) named Buttercup offered to take the 3 tests that it took to join the Disco Bandits.

The first test seemed to Max to be one that had no value, but one that Duncan (the man Max was talking too) seemed to take pretty seriously. Asking for a woman to play some music Max stepped onto the dance floor and astounded those watching by getting his groove on. Dancing an Elven Jig Max had passed the first test with flying colors.

The second test seemed to easy, so Max offered to make it harder on his own. Duncan informed him what the second test was, and Max chose throwing his throwing knives at a dart board to prove he belonged. But instead at the prescribed 30 ft away from the dart board Max asked what if he could hit it at 40 with his 2 knives. Duncan, who Max thought of as not being one to pass up a great showcase of talents approved. Max marked off the 40 feet, then spun around and before finishing the spin he sank 1 knife into the dead center of the board (bull) and the second only a few millimeters away from the bull. This was enough to pass the second test.

The Third and final seemed to be too much for Max to bare. For it included killing a Yeti to join this group of bandits. Max was asked to join at the location at 7PM. After finding a place to house Buttercup, one referred by Duncan, Max found himself alone for a few hours. Max thought long and hard about the mission in front of him. He was a friend to all animals, one who could communicate back and forth with them in his mind. He was an Animal Summoner, called Animal Friend by the animals themselves.

The doubt filled Max for he sincerely needed to find a way out of it. When it was near the time of the test Max broke into the arena and found the spectator area full of would be brothers. Duncan, urging him on informed him once again he had to kill the Yeti. Dropping to the floor of the arena, instead of attacking Max attempted to persuade the animal that he was a friend, and tame it. The first try crashed and burned, but the Yeti was encouraged to hear more. The Second attempt worked, but the Yeti wanted proof that Max could best him. So Max gave that proof in the form of 2 daggers which he sank into the Yeti.

The Yeti, now with the proof it needed, decided friendship was not as bad as death.
So with only one move the Yeti walked over stood beside Maximal. Without intention the Yeti was now a familiar of Maximal.

Duncan and the other bandits were shocked to the core. They formed a huddle and talked it over. They informed Duncan, who in turn informed Maximal that befriending the Yeti had stopped the fight, and that stopping the fight was all that was required. It would have been the same if the Yeti killed Max, or Max the Yeti. And after the small debate that was held Maximal was welcomed into the Disco Bandits Guild.

Before a drink with his new brothers and Duncan Max attended to the Yeti's two wounds. When asked for a name the Yeti replied that he had none. He asked Max to give him one. After a few moments Max told the Yeti "I name you Sacrifice. For that is what you were to be, and what I had thought I'd done to free you."

After that Maximal shared a drink with his new brothers.

*footnote The drink added 1pt. to Groove. (permanent)
1 skill point awarded to dodge. (trained by Guild Leader)
1 skill point awarded to stealth. (trained by Guild Leader)

New Familiar:

Yeti (named Sacrifice)

Max hypes things up a bit here, hm? But it made for a solid story that almost had a fairy tail feel to it, and it set up Max as true friend to animals. Though he's been quiet on the AIL front lately (as of now, we've just cleared the interim mission towards the second season), he's made a few strong showings and we look forward to when he's able to rejoin the AIL storytelling front.

Next up, we've got a piece that was "graduated" through strange circumstances to the Season Finale roleplay, and a roleplay originally intended for the Season Finale that was "demoted." Hmm...

Got another Live RP after that!
