MISSION INFORMATION This is the out of character mission information on Degrassi War, which served as a sample mission to illustrate how I wanted AiL to operate. As such, there's only a few players involved.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, here's the Mission Information as posted by me, Sebastian Dash! Note: Since this was done on the old board, the links for the origional versions will lead to the old board. Go here for the new board. Pieces missing notes:
Posted by: Dash Okay, folks, before we get to the good stuff, let's review what we've got so far. If you haven't read the sample mission's ROLLOVER, I've gotta insist you get over and read it. Now, Rollover will give you a story, and it'll try to give you as much information as it can. Sometimes, that ain't enough. Sometimes, you need a straightforward explanation. That's where we come in. So let's review how we got to this point, shall we? I set our sample story in the ascension (in the classical sense of the word, not the game sense) of King MTiger to the throne. This's got some important backstory in it. You can see how the King died, get an idea what he's like in this story, and you can probably tell why we're suffering. The old king, who doesn't - and probably never- will get a name other than "the old king" - is dead. Our rivals, who ain't really important, have lost and been ran off the continent. Maybe we'll see them again someday, but not for now. Now let's get into what you'll learn when you go to accept this assignment. This's through the eyes of a tough and hardened veteran of the war. You might get this same information from someone else, but the basics will be the same. The intro will depend on if you are a new arrival or if you lived through this war. . .
Like I explained to you newcomer / You know this first hand, but . . . The war was hell on us, but it's time to move on. You can probably guess from the letter where we're making our meat at this time. Degrossi Knoll. Lemme tell you what the letter didn't tell you. There's TWO very rough factions duking it out in Degrossi Knoll. Penguin Mafia, and anything that jackass can throw out of his very big and well populated 'kingdom' of thugs. The people of Degrassi Knoll are sick and tired of seeing them causing trouble, the Mafia running protection rackets, and kneecapping anyone they don't like, and the Knob Goblins kid-napping and stealing at their leisure. So they want a clan to go in there and slap them around. Big problem. We can't do that. At least, not blatantly. Both these groups are dangerous in their own right, first, and let's be honest. KOKOL ain't. Not before the war, and twice as much not after it. We lost a lot of folk who jumped sides, and then we lost a lot more fighting the Teenelians, as I like to call 'em. Another problem? Not everyone in Degrossi Knoll wants to be responsible for hiring someone to come in and smack around the so called nobles, OR the mafia. Sure, they don't like either faction much, but those two groups control Degrossi Knoll right now. They got their claws in so deep, half the Gnollish kids're probably gonna be born with flippers and harlem pants. All kidding aside, they're what you call entrenched. We wanna shake them up, but without putting the blame at anyone's feet. So here's the solution we came up with. For about a week, you're just there to investigate. Don't get involved unless there's a kid's life at stake, or some other such improbable situation that I'm sure you'll run into constantly. Try to talk your way out of any trouble. The Mafia and the Knob Goblins are going to be told we're just there for show, so at first, that's what we do. If you're on the scene, they should play nice, but who knows what'll happen? But here's where it gets fun. As things go along, we wanna gradually 'lose control' of you fine thug soldiers. Go slow- make sure they don't get it in their head to blame us or our bosses. Maybe get a little testy here.. Step into a bad situation there.. Ten days in, it should go to hell. I want you to personally ensure both sets of thugs are thinking twice about ever setting foot in Degrossi Knoll again, got it? Unfortunately, we only got a few days to cut loose before we call you all back in. If nothing goes well, you'll go crazy about three days and then be called home. You won't take too much time in obeying us, if you're smart. Then we'll entrench ourselves in our Kingdom, and watch the fallout from afar while we decide what to do. Goodluck. Be careful out there.
Out of character again. That covers most of what you need to know, but as you can probably guess, things will go wrong early and often. For the most part, I'm going to leave that up to you. I'm also commandeering the early set of roleplays for myself and a selected few others. Read them. I'm going to do everything possible to set the tone for my expectations. This game is based on KOL, but first and foremost, it's a writing game based on KOL. You're free to choose your own form of storytelling, of course, so you can utilize your strengths and a writer and a roleplayer. But I'm looking for entertaining stories and creative writing here, not a thinly disguised walk through of the game areas. That said, let's move on to what I see happening. We'll have three factions to deal with, and how you deal with them, while up to you, should roughly follow the three part plan. 1) Gather information and try to look like you're just there for window decorations. If we find out a bit about your character and the town, all the better. 2) Handle any problems that come up, while things start to fall apart, and conflicts somehow get upped. 3) Reign pure terror upon the mafia and Knob Goblins, without making it seem as if it was what KOKOL or the Knollish government wanted. Remember, you *will* run into conflicts with the usual thugs of Degrossi Knoll, but our beef isn't with them. Just deal with their garbage and move on. Or dwell on it. It's up to you. The Finale for this story is going to take place in Degrossi Knoll. Try not to wonder off to another area too long, if you can help it. I expect that I'll write a story as things start to winding down, throwing some kind of massive attack at us. This will be, in character, unexpected. We'll deal with it as it comes. That's it. Good writing! Posted by: Dash Posted by: Dash
I shoulda posted mission notifications (the "Mission notifications go here" post) with the Rollover itself, but it slipped my mind. Anyway, the basic idea is that this'll be a review of what happens in your roleplay. Significant developments, and a very brief overview of what happened. That way people can make sure they see all the major developments in a concise area. I'll give an example for Dash's first here. ----- Okay, I just introduced Dash here, to get things rolling. I introduced some NPC's named Moblinos, and come to think of it, I'll try to write them up a bio if you want to use them. Just remember, they come from way SOUTH of South of KOKOL's border. So far south, they never go as far north as South of the Border, as a general rule. (Although Dash did see three a little further north of South of the Border- just south of the Nearby Plains. Oi, this's confusing.) Dash met a NPC whom I have no intentions of reusing, and he's coming up North to meet with Prince BlahKing in a small village we'll name later. My roleplay's supposed to lead into WelcomeToEarth's debuet for her new character, and those two'll lead into each of us doing something with BlahKing. Expanding on his bio, I established Dash as a bit of a loner, who's returning to KOKOL after some time away. Oh, and apparently, Prince BlahKing tried to recruit him in the past as a mercenary for the war with Pertene. I also mentioned Pertene and the Knob Goblins having extended their influence to South of the Border. That's it, enjoy the roleplay! - S Dash!

Posted by: Dash Dash agrees to help. That's the big thing. He'll be focusing on the Knobs. Although I suspect my next piece will be done with Funki. Note that for this one, Prince is in his Osbron identity. He orders a fuzzbump and later casts a magic spell to render both Dash and himself invisible, for what it's worth. BlahKing himself helped me write this. Seems he's interested in getting Dash for KOKOL- Dash didn't seem receptive of the offer yet. S Dash Posted by: AiL The Mission Finale is where the whole mission comes together. A lot of times, it'll be clear who 'won' the mission. In other words, who got the most points. And the followup write up is who gets the points! Normally, the mission winner would get 20 points, with the rest of the participants getting an appropriate, smaller amount. Since it's just a sample mission, I'm only giving 5 points to the participants in this one. Konáll Bearsmasher - 5 - WINNER. Bearsmasher did a great job for the sample, co posting along with me, and doing one of his own. Sebastian Dash - 2 - I'm reluctant to give myself any points at all, since it's only a sample mission, but I'd say I outdid Blahking, who only co posted along with me. Blahking - 1 - Even though he's half NPC, he's doing a great job so far. Maybe we'll see a more active role from him for the next mission? There you have it. That brings our season total for the first mission to exactly what you see above. Remember, the season officially starts with Funki's mission, which should be up soon! It'll be worth the full 20 points. Stay tuned for more details. I'll have more posts here soon. Any questions? SD/ SG
