A Mid Summer's Awakening [part 1]
Mission:  Interim mission: Generic Summer Vacation
subtitle:

By Events Between Live RPs 1 and 2
Original Roleplay

This one goes down just before the previous piece, which was the mission's first Live RP out of an eventual , with part II coming up after this diversion.

It's a solid piece, both advancing towards a possible new enemy for Fumblie, and giving us a little look at some of the Knob Goblins that work under him as soldiers.

Leaving Seaside

Live RP 1

Live RP 2

Fumblies watches as the rest of the group ride off towards the South of the Border. Once they were gone he turns and slowly heads back towards Seaside town were his regiment of Knobs and a few of Kadlin's brutish experimental behemoths were helping in the eradication of the few small pockets of overly enthusiastic undead. Yes it had been a few weeks since the battle with the undead had been resolved by the death of the Knob King but as with anything magical there were still traces of spell lingering.

And it certainly didn't help with the dozens of small time necromancers who kept reanimating the corpses of those who had fallen. It was dirty work but fulfilling as it gave the Feline Empire a means of swaying the people Seaside Town to think about joining with the Knob Goblins under the rule of Catrina. It would be interesting to see since the last three months had been filled with the hack and slash of zombie slaying.

As Fumblies heads back into Seaside Town he walks the rubble filled streets proudly as one of the heroes of the recent war against the undead. It didn't matter that he was a commander in the Feline Empire's army since he had help to save the town. So for the moment it seemed he had been, due to the rest of the heroes heading South of the Border, command of the Seaside rebuilding efforts.

Due to some of the recent events he was only able to get into Seaside Town by virtue of the Visitor's Pass that he had been granted in accordance to his helping get the rebuilding effort started. As Fumblies passes by one of the buildings that had somehow survived the devastation he sees that he had been converted over to a somewhat sparsely furnished tavern. Knowing what he did about taverns Fumblies steps inside of the building hoping to hear some information.

As he listens he hears about a few strange thing happening out towards Fernsworthy Tower. It seemed that something was terrorizing the area and it needed to be dealt with. Thinking back Fumblies suspected he knew what he would find if he head out there. He leaves the tavern and goes to get Charr, Zapin and Bones to prepare for a trip out to the tower. He puts the third division under the control of Scaros's capable and seemingly expanding ability to lead before leading the group of squad spell casters toward Fernsworthy Tower.

The Third Division (Seaside Town)

The second in command of the Feline Empire's third division Scaros, had been feeling strange for several months now. Ever since his commanding officer Sir Fumblies had went on a secret mission he had been having thoughts that he didn't understand. It was an interesting ordeal as he was learning things about recent Knob Goblin history that had been only rumors and after the fact stories. But the biggest thing that disturbed him was that some of his dreams and random thoughts included magic words and symbols that he now understood.

While he didn't know what happening to him he couldn't let it distract him from the fact that he had a job to do. His orders were to oversee and help with the repairs on the outskirts of Seaside Town and that is what he intended to do. He was a life long soldier and knew the chain of command and his place within it. That and he knew by following this set of orders the influence of the Knob Goblins would increase which would make him more important.

~*~*~*~*~

Twitch, the head of the third division's information network had been busy scouting out all of Seaside Town's surround area. It was a task he took to with an almost supernatural enthusiasm. He figured that if he was able to learn every detail he could about the way Seaside Town and the surrounding environs were set up currently then it would help any future plans that might be formed within the Feline Empire against the KOKOL stronghold.

He had noticed a change in Scaros recently that had him wondering about the Knob's mental stability. That coupled with the rumors he had heard about the Knob Goblin King's ghost and the all to hushed rumor of a mysterious group being in existence made Twitch a little more twitchy when it came to wondering what the future held. He was the type of Knob who needed to know all that was going on so that he knew how to plan things.

~*~*~*~*~

Jumbo, the leader of the four behemoths that were now part of third division, was content with the world. He was stronger and faster than the average Knob Goblin but maintained the ability to think like a Goblin. He and his fellow behemoths had been put under the command of Sir Fumblies about a week before and in that time the four had helping to clear the biggest amount of rumble when they weren't slaying zombies.

All in all it was a good life even if the transformation process had been painful as hell. Though admittedly the constant moving of rubble was starting grate on his nerves but Jumbo knew that it was needed before he would be able to tear anything new apart.

To the Tower

Sir Fumblies and the three Knob Goblins head out of Seaside town heading toward Fernsworthy Tower in an almost apprehensive yet thoughtful manner. Fumblies knew that the answer to some of his problems lay within the tower but wasn't sure what he would he would find once he got there. "Hey Bones how is the undead activity looking?"

Bones, the leader of the few goblins skilled in the arts of undead mastery, merely chuckles before answering. "Well Sir there is a lot of magical energy in the air so I am not getting a clear reading on amount of undead activity. But I feel that the undead seems to be strongest up ahead."

"Well it looks like we need to be on our guard then as we don't know how strong things will be up ahead." Charr and Zapin both nod in response to Fumblies order. Deep down Fumblies knew that what he had embarked upon would be a prelude to part of his future and he planned to face it head on.

The group keeps traveling until they finally reach a small glade that Fumblies decides would be easily defensible in case the four were attacked. As the Knobs Gobs set up some basic magical defenses Fumblies turns himself invisible to see what might be around them. With a shock he realizes that this glad was where he had been held weeks before when he had gotten that message about needing to kill the Knob King in order to beat the undead.

A he looks around he sees several sets of glowing foots that seem to be heading towards the tower. He suspected that now that the answer to who controlled the ninjas who had been after him would soon be answered. After a few minutes Fumblies shifts back to the material world to see that the camp had been set up and dinner was being prepared.

Enter the Puppet Master

A shadowy figure sat up a dark bone throne in robe that hid its entire body. This meant that no features could be seen. In a black gloved hand the figure holds a small scrying sphere that glowed faintly in the light. The sphere grows dark and a cold laugh is heard before a strong yet mysterious voice is heard. "Ready the dragon we shall soon have visitors."

From the corners of the room nearly a dozen silent figures stealthy make their way out of the room with almost no trace of their movements. Meanwhile, the room begins to fill with the sound of faint chanting. The figure on the bone throne laughs once more in a manner that show him to be like a cat toying with a mouse. "This will be easier than I thought."

To be Continued....

Solid stuff! I think I like Jumbo best of the three secondary tier characters here so far.
Now it's time to get back South of the Border for another Live RP!
