An Unexpected Surprise
Mission:  Uncle Crimbo's Summertime Renaissance Southern Fair: A GROARING problem
subtitle: A new friend or two

Original roleplay

We are back to SnowCatCuties for what our voter called "very slice of life, which can be a great genre."

SnowCatCuties left the sweet shop after seeing Becky and topping up her sweets stash. She headed back to her bike and decided to put up her tent. Only thing is, she didn't know where. She didn't want to go too far from the diner but she didn't want to wait till it was dark to put up the tent. She took out one of her gadgets and the remote to go with it. Gadget in hand, Snow threw it in the air and guided it as the gadget flew around. By looking at the remote, Snow could see the ground below. There was a location that was not out of the way and would be perfect for a campsite. The Gadget was guided back and when it arrived, there seemed to be some people following it. Snow looked confused as they ran up to her.

"What was that thing in the air? You have it don't you?" asked the young boy, running faster than the others.

"This thing?" She brought out the gadget to show the boy as the other two caught up.

"Yes that thing. What is it?"

"This thing allows me to see the ground somewhere else so I can try to find something or somewhere without moving. I throw this part in the air and use this remote to see everything as well as control it."

"Wow! Can you show us?" one of the girls asked eagerly.

"Sure." Snow threw her device up and started to control it. Kneeling down, she showed the young children the local surroundings.

"OH MY GOD!" shouted the eldest, who pointed to somewhere on the device. "Can you get closer to that?"

"Yes just give me a sec." Snow replied as she lowered her gadget. "What are you looking for?"

"Oh, it's nothing. I thought I saw something I lost. But it's not there." They looked sad by this; Snow felt sympathetic by this.

"Well let's go have a look just to check anyway; how about that?" After bringing the gadget back, she beckoned to him to join her.

"Ok, I don't see the harm in that." The eldest boy went to jump on the bike and turned to his friends. "I'll meet you guys back at the tree house."

"Ok, put on this quick and then hold on tight." Snow passed a spare helmet. "I'll go slow but I still need you to be safe."

Once the child was safe, Snow slowly headed to where her gadget spotted the lost item. They dismounted and the child ran off towards the bushes. Close behind was Snow, but the child soon walked back, looking close to tears.

"She's gone." He whimpered.

"Who's gone?" Snow asked.

"My cat Smokey. She went missing not long ago and we can't seem to find her. We used to just call Smokey and she would just come running up to you all purring. I guess we won't be able to find Smokey." He burst into tears and Snow just had to give him a hug. Just then, a black and white kitten came running out and over to the two of them.

"What did Smokey look like?" Snow said releasing from the hug and showing the small kitten.

"Smokey was grey and she wasn't a kitten." He petted the kitten as a white one jumped out the bush and ran over to them. Before the white kitten reached them, a black one was close behind it. Following that was another black and white one running over. The last one fell over its own feet, making Snow and the child laugh, leaving a small smile on the child's face. But you could see he was still sad.

"Looks likes this is a litter but where is the mother?" Snow asked. Just then, there was a rustle in the bush and out walked a grey cat.

"Smokey!" The child shouted as he ran over to the cat and swooped her into his arms. The kittens ran over to them. Watching them would bring joys to anyone's eyes.

Snow waited a moment and let the child have his moment of joy. She went to her bike and tried to find something to transport the Smokey and her litter to the child's house. Hidden amongst her things were a box and a blanket.

"Perfect," she thought, putting the blanket in the box. Snow carried the box to boy. "You can put them in here if you want and we can take them to yours. I'll help."

"Oh thanks," the boy replied. They put the little family into the box and managed to get the box safely on the bike before getting the boy home. His family sounded thrilled to get the cat back and shocked by the kittens.

Snow started to leave the family to their joy before the child ran back over.

"Wait, I didn't find out your name," he shouted, getting closer.

"SnowCatCuties, but people call me Snow." She smiled.

"Snow, that's a nice name. I'll call the small white one Snow after you. Did you want one?"

"Oh thanks, are you sure?" Snow asked, eyeing up the small black kitten escaping out the box and running down the path. "Can I have that one?"

"Sure," he said picking up the little kitten and passing it to Snow. "What you going to call it?"

"Sooty, or Coal. Or something. I'm not sure at the moment." Snow held the small kitten as it licked her face. "However, at the moment, I don't really have anywhere for it or anything to carry it in. Can I leave it here until I can sort something?"

"I don't see a problem with it. I'll let my parents know. I'll see you soon." He took the kitten and headed up the path.

Snow set off to her campsite that she found and set up camp before her dinner with Becky and the shopkeeper. As she set up, she wondered what to call her new companion and thought that maybe Becky could help.

Isn't it an adorable little story? Sure, it's short, but it's a side story. It fits Snow very well, too along with the idea of her bringing 'futuristic' Honorburg technology with her. At least, futuristic compared to AIL, anyway. The idea is she's basically a gadgeteer, in old City of Heroes terms.

The kids were cute, too.
