FOREST: Becky and I head out
Mission:  Guild Warriors II: Machines and Soul
subtitle: Because.. it's that time

Posted by Sassy Snake
Original cowrite

So the story finally loops back to Sassy, near the beginning.

Sassy has such a charming and unique style. In fact, in an odd turn of events, she tied with a co write (FOREST: Some blood falling in the Forest ) for the Most Unique Style award, marking the first time and only time a character has ever tied with a roleplay for an award!

Oh.. and Becky's here to so please be sure to read and enjoy! The two always go together so well in terms of styles.

Sassy needed a nap after pouring so much of her energy into helping and healing but sleeping didn't seem to be very relaxing for her.

She screamed and thrashed about wildly as memories of the battle crashed down on her. Overwhelming her and filling her with dread. When she finally woke up and looked around her, she wasn't cheered by what she saw. Buildings wrecked and damaged, some of them falling; no use trying to save them. Moving on, her nostrils caught the scent of fresh blood. She knew that there was someone hurt who need her help. Steeling herself, she saw a boy whose leg was caught.

She gently but firmly freed him and healed him. If she had more herbs and medicines, her job would be easier but she would use what she had until they were gone. She had earlier asked Becky to see if she could find some lichens for her, but she was afraid that Becky didn't understand or that something happened because Becky had been gone now for a while. If she could spare the time, Sassy would go out and look for some herself but right now, she simply didn't have time. Wrapping the boy's leg in bandages and splints, she managed to get him in to the inn, which she thought was the safest building in town right now and the only one she could use for her hospital.

Earlier, the innkeeper, Cashon D. Barrelhead, didn't seem thrilled with having all of these people in his inn without making money off of them. "Tain't har'ly fair, Mess," he told Sassy, "Me inn is here to payin' customers. How's it gonna look, me givin' them shelter without paying fer it?"

When Sassy told him that they would need food as well as lodging, he nearly had an attack. She still remembered how he carried on and how he "would have killed her if she had been a man."

Or so he said. What bright colors he had turned. Sassy still smiled when she thought of that. She was just getting the boy in to the inn when a frantic-looking woman comes out of nowhere to embrace him. "Johim! Johim, my poor boy! What has happened to you? Where have you been?" Clutching her boy close to her, she looked at Sassy as tears filled her eyes.

Sassy gently reached out and touched her with a soothing touch. "He'll be all right now," she coo’d to the woman who must be his mother. "He's safe and I have done what I can for him. If you would watch over him now, it would allow me to help others. Will you please look after him?"

"Of course, he is my son. I will tend to him now, miss . . ."

"Call me Sassy Snake. I'm just a stranger here, but I am trying to help as much as I can."

"Thank you Miss Snake. My name is Veravia. Thanks for taking care of my son."

"You're welcome of course. Now I must go back for more."

Leaving the son with her mother, she heard the landlord ask her, "Air ye payin' fer this?" The distraught woman said she had no money to pay. The landlord shrugged and said, "Nor has anybudy else. Yer welcome here. There be a room upstairs to the left fer ye."

Sassy returned to the debris and filth that was once a proud if small city, now with crumbling buildings and hurt people. A man with glazed eyes spotted her and began to babble something. Looking him over, she saw a lot of injuries from fire. She figured he must have some bad nerve damage.

She removed an herb from her pouch and mixed it in some water in a cup. Handing the cup to him, she told him that it would help him if he would drink it all down. His senses slowly begin to return to him. As he thanked her and moved on, a familiar figure approached.

~~ Earlier- just after the meeting with Dash and Cattaras ~~

Green stood and gulped as Cattaras Whiteclaw and Red vanished from view before Green blinked a second time. "Ooooi, brother. I'm glad you didn't volunteer me, Miss Goblina."

Moments ago, Becky Joy had suggested Cattaras speed ahead for the ninja village, to leave Becky to deal with the situation here before she headed out to help with the demons and the forest. Catt asked Goblina if she'd like to join him. Goblina offered up Red instead. Before Red could protest, Cattaras took Goblina up on the offer; Catt grabbed Red and sped off into the distance.

This left Red's brother trembling at the thought of moving at that speed. Or facing down demons.

Becky giggled! "Heehee, he's a fast kitty."

Goblina, Green and Darson, Becky's three remaining Goblins, gathered around her to plan.

"He is a speedy creature," Goblina agreed.

"We better find them kitties for Sassy!" Becky said.

"Are you sure she said kittens?" Darson dared to ask. "Because I was pretty sure I hea-"

Becky interrupted him to shout. "Kitties, yay! Let's go find the kitties!"

Goblina let out a “Yay” while Green scratched his head.

Darson grumbled, "Well, you are the boss."

Becky and Goblina cheered, of course. So they set off searching for the kittens.

--- later ---

"Hi, Sassy!" Becky's face lit up at the sight of her new buddy. "We found them kitties you wanted to cure people with! I guess smiling really is the best medicine huh? And, and, I got some news, I wanna tell you what I did! I was helpin' Cattaras and Dashie, and how're you doing? And how did it go? Sorry I took so long to find you, I'm really sorry!"

Taking the kittens from Becky, she thanked her, then settled down next to her. "I want to hear all about it, Becky. Just catch your breath and relax a bit. I am fine and it looks like you have news, so whenever you are ready please tell me what is going on?" Settling back, she stroked the kittens as Becky started to tell her the news that she brought with her.

"Man, where to start?!" Becky asked. So she started by telling Sassy what'd happened after Becky and she split up. Becky ended up hearing Cattaras calling her, and they worked together to save a lot of people. Becky also told her about the news from the Council. It was at this point Becky got very serious as she explained the two situations.

"I hope someone deals with them stupid slaver idiots and beats 'em up and breaks their machine!" Becky said, slamming her fist into her palm. "But I am gonna have to help out Dashie and Cattaras and every-1's in Forest Village, so I guess what I am sayin is.. Becky Joy: Amateur professional demon hunter extraordinaire!"

After absorbing what Becky had told her, Sassy told Becky that she would join her and help out as much as she could. Taking Becky's hand in hers, Sassy began skipping with her toward the forest. She wasn't afraid as long as her friend Becky was beside her, skipping alongside of her with Green, Goblina and Darson, Becky's trusty Goblin sidekicks, rushing to keep up.

"So that's why we're helping Mr. Dash," Becky finished. "But I almost went to beat up them mean slavers, and they're evil, and they tried to do bad, bad things to people, and I don't like that! But I gotta help big Cattaras, too! And, and, he took Red and ran off, and I hope he doesn't run into a trap, ya'know?"

"Yeah," Goblina said. "Hopefully he's careful."

Realizing that she may be of help in the forest, hoping to see Sebastian Dash again, Sassy had been happy to join Becky and Goblina as they headed for the forest. Taking Becky's hand in hers, she did continue to skip alongside of Becky and the three Goblins. Always on the lookout for trouble as well as any friends that might be found among the trees. Several times, she did see some snakes in the distance, but had no time to slow her pace to see if they were friendly or if she could communicate with them. Trying to match Becky's energy and enthusiasm, she did run at full speed until she almost collapsed exhausted on the trail.

Becky giggled as she realized the others had tired out already. "Guess what.. time to double the pace!" She giggled and the others moaned. "No, no, naw, no, just kiddin, it's actually time to take a break and do picnic!"

"I could use some sleep too, it's late!" Green's eyes lit up as he flopped down on the ground. "Oh, poor brother, I hope he took some food with him."

"Really?" Goblina raised an eyebrow. "Do you honestly think Red wouldn't have food stored on or with him somewhere?"

"That's true!" answered Becky.

"Well, this does seem like a good place to set up camp, and it is late," Sassy said. "But if we really want to get there, we'll have to get up at the crack of dawn."

Becky pulled out a package of wafer crackers, chocolate spread, and tiny marshmallows. "And look, I brought some'mores!" Becky then pulled out some wheat crackers, peanut butter topping, and large flat marshmallows.

"Good, I got a ghost story to tell!" Green said with a huge smile as he unpacked a small and humble looking sandwich from his backpack.

"Your ghost stories always end up scaring you so you can't sleep," Goblina reminded him. Green shivered. Goblina turned to Sassy and decided, "We should let our new friend talk first. Any questions or stories to tell, Miss Sassy? Or would you prefer I call you Miss Snake?"

Sassy thought on it. "You can call me either, or whatever you wish, but I'd like it if you just call me Sassy, if that's okay with you. I don't have anything to say at the moment but if I think of something interesting, you'll be the first to know, okay?"

Goblina nodded. "Okay Sassy. I'm going to help Becky and the boys set things up, and you can relax if you want."

Goblina nodded, trying to catch her breath while Becky and the others set up camp. Once she had rested a bit, Sassy helped them as they cooked their food. Finishing roasting her marshmallow, she was standing admiring its dark brown golden color when Green snuck up behind her and took the marshmallow from her. Giggling, he ran off with it and ate it before Sassy knew what had happened.

"Don't worry about that, Green and Red think they're clever little tricksters. Here. Have another," said Goblina as she handed Sassy another marshmallow to roast.

After roasting this one, she was shocked when Becky grabbed it before she could eat it. Running after Becky, she wasn't in time to stop Becky from popping it in to her mouth and eating it. Becky could barely speak through the giggling. "Whatta matta, Sassy? You've cooked two marshmallows and you are still hungry?"

After trying to roast several marshmallows only to have them snatched away and eaten by others, Goblina teased Sassy, "Wow, after all those marshmallows, you're still hungry!"

To which Sassy Snake replied, "I wouldn't be if all of your goblins weren't gobblin' down all my marshmallows!" She began to laugh as she understood the comedy of it all and realized that Becky and the other goblins were pulling a prank on her. "Is that why they call you Goblina? 'Cause you keep gobblin' all of the food?"

Sassy, pretending to be angry with her, launched herself at Goblina and began to tickle her. "Coolies! Tickle time!" Sassy heard Becky say and suddenly she was being tickled as well. As Darson dutifully stood guard against any potential threats, Green watched and smirked before coming up to the fire to snatch a few more marshmallows. Eventually, the play came to an end and Becky and the others settled in to get some rest. Darson offered to take the middle shift and had Green watch over them first few hours.

Stretching her feet out near the fire and relaxing, thinking of her last camp with Dash and the others, Sassy's heart thumped a bit as she thought of Dash; he was out there somewhere close to them, she knew that from what Becky had told her. Perhaps she might find him in the morning. Watching the stars flickering above her, she rolled herself up in a blanket and fell to sleep.

And sleep well, she did!

Although actually, Sassy plays off of Dash as well. Getting back to this project is a good reminder of how much I enjoyed AIL and the different combinations of characters. I'm really hoping we get the same thing in Champions of Atlas at some point, even though the game is set up very differently. My one wish for AiL is I'd gotten more players and especially more KOL players from outside of KOKOL to join the game.

Next up is another piece with Sassy and Becky - but this one has a third! Then it's a final piece which looks like it has Todd, Wildfall and possibly others. I guess you'll just have to hit 'next' to find out! Then each half of the mission gets its own one piece mega finale.
