![]() Mission #10.5: The Grand Finale 5/5 (ran by Aleena, Sebastian Dash, Sassy Snake, Shelldor and Catrina Whiteclaw)
Lots of stories started and ended throughout the AIL's first two seasons.
The story of AIL, in fact, begins in the aftermath of the Kingdom of KOL's war with Pertene, with King MTiger taking the clan over. Prince Blahking and the new King recruited several new soldiers into KOKOL, such as Sebastian Dash, Catrina Whiteclaw, Becky Joy and Feena, while some of those already with the Kingdom of KOL (Konall Bearsmasher, Shamus XTreme, Fluffy Hamster and others) continued to adventure with the clan as they took more prominent roles in adventures.
Early quests ranged from the fairly mundane (undefiling the crypt, rescuing the kidnapped Toot Oriole, finding a mosquito) to the fantastic, such as investigating the Chrono Dragon's attacks on the Mysterious Island of Mystery and travelling to Hey Daze to save lost clan mates.
Later, KOKOL's newest enemy, the Knob Goblin King, invaded Seaside Town and then tried to burn it down. When the Goblin King unleashed a spell to put a horde of zombies under his command, two of his Elite 7, Jester King of Beast and Daisuke, disrupted his spell and used it to fuel a spell aimed at Catrina. This lead to Catrina's dark side taking over. She took over the Knob Goblins and briefly allied with KOKOL to defeat the hordes of zombies, who were now out of control.
The Story so far:
It was a very different Kingdom after Catrina has taken over the Knob Goblin Kingdom and renamed it the Feline Empire, fortified by previous KOKOL members such as Raw Hide, Becky Joy, Kadlin Bearsmasher, Shamus Xtreme and more.
After a couple missions of rescuing princesses, KOKOL and the Feline Empire were forcibly sent to another world which had allies battling each other and enemies uniting. Tensions that had been building up before the trip to the Flipworld exploded after the heroes returned to their own world, resulting in members of both clans forming a third faction under the guidance of Sir Fumblies and Konall Bearsmasher. Meanwhile, Sassy Snake found herself drawn from her home the Flipworld into the "main" world.
Catrina's curse kicked in when her natural good side started asserting itself. She found herself stranded in Hey Daze as Kadlin took over the Feline Empire, renaming it into the Empire of the Ebon Blade. Catrina's brother Cattaras and Becky Joy left the Feline Empire and contacted KOKOL. Along with Dash, the space elves, Konall and several heroes, they rescued Catrina. Kadlin, on the verge of being able to release the evil spirit in the glaive, retreated to Farnswarthy tower, reshaping it in our image.
The heroes united against Kadlin and found themselves dealing with a multitude of problems. Various heroes and anti heroes battled the Elite 8, helped the Knob Goblin revolution against Kadlin, and battled the darkness itself to save the Chrono Dragon and his offspring. Dash and Konall teamed with other heroes and gods to battle through countless enemies to assault Kadlin's tower in an attempt to stop Kadlin's dark plans, which they believed would be a threat to this world and worlds behind.
In the end, Kadlin repented after killing her brother, and then gave her life to reseal the glaive, asking Aleena to dispose of it into a black star.
Out of character wise, this is the mission that revived AIL. (Assuming the revival lasts long enough to count, by whatever measure that is.) It was more than a month after I posted the unconventional Rollover that we got our first roleplay- Sassy Snake. Early October 2015. By June 2016, we'd only gotten a total of six roleplays. Then, after a July of no posts, we got seven roleplays in August! With things active, we got another eight roleplays, including three player debuts, with the last post/ debut being October 15th. Going back to where this began, I'd been wanting to wrap up AiL and start a totally new game in its place. But while I was going through with my plans to finish AIL off in a really grand fashion, my father was passing away in real life from cancer. That was obviously a big distraction. Add to that the sheer number of stories going on in the last mission, where we set out to finish off an epic ten scenarios. I did okay at first. I planned to make it five parts and got part one up in about a month. Part two came not even three and a half months later and was, size wise, easily the biggest of the Finale pieces. Then things with my father's health went to hell one last time and he passed away. I was not in the mood to write for months, and when I did try, I was so overwhelmed with it, it felt like I would never be able to seriously write for it again. But I persisted. Maybe I had to let enough time pass to get over this idea that "The longer I take to write it, the bigger and more epic it should be." I don't know. After part 3 was posted, I had Cameron post his mostly-written Kadlin/ Konall scene as part 4 and I turned part five into its own mission; this mission. I was able to revive AIL over time with it, as you can see above. The mission goal was simple - we'd deal with the scenarios we didn't address the previous mission and call it the fifth part of the Finale! Read below to find how it all unfolds.
Feature character: Sassy Snake takes her first "Featured character" honor here with some really impressive work, following her return late last mission. It's well deserved; she was on fire! During her two co-writes and epic five solos, she split her stories between before the Elite 7 vs. Elite 8 battle from the last mission and after, where she introduces a colorful cast of characters. It's a shame her most powerful showing was during a time without scores on the mission, but at least she earns the featured character spot for her excellent work! Co-feature characters: Shelldor, SpaghettiGirl and Captain Waldo Wallace all made their debuts this mission! In a way, they're key to the revival of AIL, offering us the chance for new stories with new characters. Shelldor lead the way with a co-write with Wildfall, which SpaghettiGirl followed up with a co-write with Becky Joy. Captain Wallace ended roleplaying with a late (but well written) solo to get all three on the board. I can only hope all three prove to be a big part of AIL in Season 3!
And featuring: The archetypal red mage, Bandit, Bingo, Bob, Bobby (cameo), Thorny Bristle, Fahari's golden cocoabo, Captain Wallace's crew, the child-ghost in Sir Fumble's armor, Cid, Dick, Darson, Cid's daughter, Harry, Jake, the engineer from the highlands, Bob's familiars, a giant bugbear shaped metal ship, Gnollish, Goblina, gun-armed sidekick, Council of Loathing member Howe, Johim, Katlana, Linger (Belinda the troll), the monkey-tailed thief, the mysterious ninja prince, NPZRsRCool, a random group of heroes, a scribe, random snakes, Serpentina, Tom, Tus, Shelldor's talking shield, the spirit of the Feline Goddess, unnamed prisoners of the slavers, an unnamed wizard, Veravia, and Ravyn Wynge.

Note: Some roleplays take place before the Elite 7/8 battle, which was a conflict in the Finale of 10 Scenarios, the previous mission.

Season 2 Finale: A 14 parter | Aleena, Catrina, Dash, Sassy, and Shelldor | N/A |
The massive Finale starts with Wildfall looking for the snakes he'd been following but finding Cattaras and Jen instead. Elsewhere, Sassy's crew tries to free some slaves but end up getting caught, with only Linger escaping. He later recruits Becky Joy, SpaghettiGirl, and Blackpaws as backup. Blackpaws leads an attack on the slavers' thugs, who get their own backup in the form of real Catlinan slavers. When things start going wrong, Cattaras, Jen and Wildfall arrive to act as backup. Things are complicated as a dimensional rift opens up.
While this is all unfolding, Shelldor and the ninja prince make their way through a camp crawling with familiars of all sorts and meet their unlikable and lazy leader, Bob. They continue towards the ship and are joined by the ship's mechanic, who seeks to upgrade the ship to take on the airship. They arrive shortly before the airship brings an end to the battle, leading to Cattaras, Jen and Fahari battling a strange pair on the airship. Elsewhere, Council member Lowe scouts out the Penguin controlled Seaside Town and foreshadows an important Council meeting. In the shadow of the mysterious bugbear ship, Catrina and Dash reconnect on a personal level. Later, Aleena returns, though she and Dash have figured out very little about the bugbear's ship. |
