MISSION INFORMATION I'm quite proud of this mission, where the Adventurers headed into Hey Daze with the intention of saving Catrina's soul. If you haven't read up on the previous missions, I would reccomend a good ol' fashioned archive dig at the AiL archives. Check 'em out! So now, with Catrina's soul on the line, several of AIL's finest head into Hey Daze - hell- itself to save her. Here's the notes from staff and players on that! MISSION INFO MISSION NOTES and RP notes for the mission are here. It looks like we managed to get RP notes for all but one - but note a lot of these are two in one summaries - or in one case, a three in one summary. So that's.. different, I guess. Check 'em out. Preferably after you read the main mission since they're SPOILERS. Many of the RP notes even lay teasers and foreshadowing for plans later in this mission.
Pieces missing notes:
Catrina has been drawn to Hey Daze. Kadlin Bearsmasher has seized control of the Feline Empire, redubbing it the Empire of the Ebon Sword. It'll basically be up to us to stop her. Or side with her if you choose to go the evil route. Note that although there are two distinct factions, this isn't a 'split quest' mission like the Guild Warriors II was. In fact, I'm hoping we can tie the two stories together as much as possible. A single character can and probably should be affected by the effects of both stories, even if that character has a specific goal in mind. I'd also like to have our players illustrate rising challenges. Be creative on what this means. Your character might have to deal with the leftovers of older threats, such as the slavers who are still left here, or the Penguin Mafia. Or you could come up with something new. Either way, let's turn up the heat on our characters as much as we can! So to speak. If you're going to Hey Daze, there's no real reliable way there, including the gateway that's in the Forest in KOL. It's not there, it was dealt with. So you'll have to figure a way to Hey Daze if you're going. Talk to me and other members there; we can help each other. That's it. I might add to this all later! Very tired right now as I write this. Even if you have a goal, let the other storyline influence it if you can. Also, RP notes go here! Keep 'em sweet and fairly short if you can. i needed a creative way to finally get into the AIL game, so me and zwoo did a sick cowrite introducing my mentally insane character; I did a bit of foreshadowing, with the part where my character is officially a mercenary, as well as his shoulder demon being able to conjure things up. This ends with Aleena saying she 'might have something to help' Dash out. End of editorial insert
I told Mitch I'd get up notes for Cat on a Hot Tin Dimension, a Catrina/ Jay co-write. Yup, Jay is back for a second piece! Basically, it's a roleplay where Catrina meets and briefly fights Jay. However, it ALSO includes the very important scene showing how Catrina arrives in Hey Daze in the first place. I have no idea why it seems like Catrina is just arriving in Hey Daze and that this is set after Zed/ Jay. I blame it on Hey Daze. A short little piece where Tarvel gets ready to go to Hey Daze and reflects both on the significance of a mission that would take space elves to the afterlife (or at least *an* afterlife) with a personal note on an unnamed friend from her past. ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Dimension’ went up before Affy’s solo. big note: this piece has details on how Catrina ended up in Hey Daze in the beginning. I don’t know if or where it is mentioned, but she left a note for Cattaras which is how the heroes know about this. Anyway… Catrina runs into and briefly fights Jay, our new player. They fight demons. Jay’s shoulder demon Lou tries to teleport them out of Hey Daze- but something forces them into a deeper part of HD instead. Then Lou is kidnapped. Return of Cyber Sunset – Cyber Sunset and Aleena are heading back to the Loathing Planet! Although Sunset is a little down over returning to the planet, leaving his space days behind him possibly forever. Seems like there is this girl he’s sweet on, Sylenia. (Whom I named hehe!) She’s going with them as are three other space elves whom Aleena introduced. Finally.. Through the Looking Portal is a monster effort. A lot happened. Dash meets up with Glyn, quickly joined by Tarvel. After some planning, they head for the distance after seeing Aleena and other elves dropping, air raid style, into the woods up ahead. All very dramatic. They run into some people before they get there. We cut back a few minutes to see Fahari, Wildfall and Todd entering the forest, where they, of course, become the runs our first group runs into.
They then meet up with Jen and Aleena, along with the returning Cyber Sunset and some new elves; Slyvenia, Zachane and Valaria. The space elves are able to quickly open a portal to Hey Daze, promising support to those going to Hey Daze, with Aleena keeping some behind to deal with Kadlin if need be. Here’s a clip from the RP end.
Going through the portal: Dash, Fahari, Wildfall, Todd, Tarvel, Glyn, Sylenia, Cyber Sunset
Because it was about time a few more people met up in Hey Daze, we present a co-write starring four characters mentioned above. There's a brief glimpse of what party dynamics might develop into, and some more anxiety from Catrina about her past and present & from others meeting her in control of herself once more. Now, let's see what Hey Daze has to offer and how will the characters react to the essence of a realm for the damned. The assembled heroes and heroines try to get their bearings as they enter Hey Daze, but are quickly divided and set upon by a widespread demonic presence. In various scenes, we see that the gathered protagonists are set upon by fears and forces that resonate with certain individuals. Hey Daze has a way of adapting itself to best 'knock you down'; well, turn-about's my bet for this plot. In this RP Fahari and Todd resolve their respective realities and set up their returns to Hey Deze. I'd say more, but that would be telling. Let's see, roleplay notes for the Fumblies/ Joy piece titled Becky and Fumblies: Howl at the Moon. Starts off with a little piece, Darson training Red. Funny stuff here. I hope. Then Becky meets up with Fumblies in the woods. Becky has Red and Green with her. Fumblies takes a few of his forces. The rest will be dealing with the Ebon Sword situation if required. Fumblies has hired a guide named Wolf, whom Becky seems to annoy slightly. There are a few battles, mostly off camera, and they run into a demon lord whom Becky wants to talk to. After a series of odd events (him wanting Fumblies to see his soda factory), Becky is told to attack. This forces the demon lord to open a portal to Hey Daze, which Wolf holds open so the heroes can pour through. No doubt he'll claim that was his plan all along. Yes, Master Sliver returns, this time to train Cattaras! Although something's not quite right here, there's mischief afoot! (For those of you who don't remember Master Sliver, click on the words 'tatami' and 'house' for links to the episodes in Season 1 that involved him) This one will be continued- as seems to be the norm anytime Sliver's involved. Next time: Who is Cattaras' secret tormenter? Who is his new trainer? There's a party at Master Sliver's house and things are going to get wild! Meet Cattaras' new teacher and learn her unorthodox lesson for our brawling bengal! This one will blow Todd's mind if he ever hears it. First, Dash, Glyn and Tarvel are stuck in this horrible potential version of a very destroyed apocalyptic Honorburg, where Dash served as a hero several years in the past. It's strongly implied this is a future that may have at one time come to pass, and still might. After exploring, the three deal with a few monsters. However, before Glyn could use his scientific abilities to dispel the illusion, much bigger monsters surround them for a fun cliffhanger. Meanwhile, Becky is in a fight of her own, yay Becky! Her and Fumblies are joined by Cattaras in battling the traitorous Bones, who summons zombie demons, Hunk and Dr. Darth. The advantage changes a few times but ends with the villains in control- but that’s also when Fumblies’ hired gun Wolf, a werewolf, jumps into action! As you might expect, it’s full of humor, action and great writing! Yay Cattaras! He manages to fit in some playful banter with Becky. Oh, and the Bones/ Fumblies confrontation starts playing out here too. And let's just have fun with the Loathing world one last time! But we'll talk more about our Series Finale mission soon. For now, we'll focus on the just passed mission which once again saw some really amazing roleplaying. I'll rank the characters starting with the winner, by the points they earned not including extra points for awards. But I'll list the points each player got from awards with their rankings. I'll also put select comments from myself and the voter on each. So here we go. Winner- Sebastian Dash! Yup, Sebastian's awarded the victory again. The big thing the voter seemed to like was how much it felt like Dash had at stake. From the kidnapping of his former lover and longtime ally turned rival Catrina, to facing down a vision of a potential horrible future for Honorburg, a town where Dash had spent several years, Dash goes through the ringer. Dash was somewhat over the boards in co writes and spent a fair bit of that time in the company of space elves and often others as well. 20 points to Dash, plus 1 more point for being in the best otherworld piece, Dealing with uninvited guests. It's a massive co written piece, and of course, Dash was a part of it. It was cited for its number of great scenes along with other reasons I'll get into as I tick off the many winners. Having all the heroes gathered together and arriving in Hey Daze only to be blown apart was a fun twist. Dash is, of course, the 'original adventurer' in AIL terms. Dash - 21 points overall +1 point for being a part of the Best otherworld, again in Dealing with uninvited guests. Todd finds himself in what first seems to be a dream but soon reveals itself as a nightmare. The only thing the author regretted was not being able to follow the solo pieces even further, although we did get followups for most of them. Todd - 19 points overall A space elf comes in the next position, third place, filled by Tarvel with 16 points. The voter commented on our top rank for the space elves and the third overall. "Tarvel earned her spot through good work and consistency. I think the character has a lot of fleshing out to do, but her character felt like she belonged and fit into the story, and felt like she had a logical conclusion from a logical beginning." It seemed to help that the space elves split up a few times in this one, too. However, although Tarvel cameos in the Best Otherworld piece, it was only a mention and a line which I added myself, so she doesn't get a point for it. Tarvel - 16 points. Next up, Sir Fumblies ties for 4th place. Three way tie to boot. Although he hit the game a little late, he managed to build up momentum and finished very strong. Fumblies is a definitely potential big player in any given mission. It'll be interesting to see how his stories unfold in our Series Finale. Fumblies got an award of his own. +2 points for Best Overworld for co-writing Howl at the Moon with Becky Joy! Which I think is just fun rereading through. The piece introduced a new NPC guide named Wolf and featured a special Red prologue as well. Fumblies - 16 points overall. Also tied for forth is Zed Shinestone who takes a couple powerful awards with this one. Sadly, Zed ended up finishing a little weak in our voter's eyes. Zed's been a solid player since debuting with Aleena a few missions ago. Zed's solo helped both his rankings and his extra awards here, so let's start with that. +2 for best solo for Difficult things, things left unsaid. It promises a different style and lives up to the promise. The first roleplay of the mission was one that was hard to match. Very cool seeing another side of Zed. It was cited heavily as part of the reason he scored the three point award for Arata's Award for Excellence as well. The idea behind the award is to recognize a top character who was either the very best in at least two categories or close to it. Zed won the first part of the award in the 'most improved' category, again in large part to his solo. Well, let me partially quote Ichiro here. "With someone people, when I first started seeing their work, I knew exactly where they would end up in future rankings. Sometimes I figure they would hang on the lower end, sometimes I would mental(ly) put them on a pedestal, seeing very good things for them. With Zed, I always expected mid-tier work. Not bad work, mind you, they were always fun reads, but I was expecting one trait characters, and mostly gag work through his blessing. Whelp, color me wrong." Ichiro went on to call Zed's work, especially recently, "Fantastic," going into not just the solo but his co writes as well, each of which Ichiro felt had different style to them which still let Zed feel like Zed. He called Zed's work "a joy to read," only slightly criticizing Zed's work for needing a "complete end to this part of the mission." So Zed earns 3 more points for The Arata Award for Excellence (high rankings) in the category of most improved and impressive style. Zed scores 19 points overall. That ties him, pointwise, with our number two ranked Todd Blackpaws. Since we're on Mitch's characters, Fahari also ties for third with 14 points. Fahari travels with Todd and Wildfall early on. She then has to relive her darkest memory in Hey Daze which Voter Ichiro priased as "a completely solid and emotional story-arc." That ties into Dealing with uninvited guests which earns her +1 point since it got Best Overworld and +1 point for Most Dramatic Scene. Voter comments on most dramatic scene: "Fahari's section was able to do a load of things right able a dramatic scene, right down to not actually stating what had happened, but implying in such a way that there was no doubt, but not over doing it to the point it just becomes cartoonish." Overall points for Fahari - 16 Konall Bearsmasher comes in a little low in a three way tie for seventh. Although the voter praised a moment where Konall wasn't sure how to respond to Catrina- if he should comfort or attack her- the voter also stated Konall didn't feel like himself this mission, although the moment did earn him +2 point for Best Hero, going against his nature and feelings to help Catrina. Konall's overall points - 14... Also tied for seventh was Jay, who debuts and really racks up the extra points here! Voter comments: "great concepts, fun dialogue, and good base character to work with, but he really needs to work on descriptions." It was interesting seeing him both in his solo and various co writes. Jay takes 1 point for best RP title (Eat, Fight, & Parental Discretion Advised) and +1 for best New (Or returning, but he was new) NPC for Lou, who helped Jay take +1 point for Funniest Line as well. For this gem.
The title brought a smile to the voter's face while the line brought him a chuckle. And his comments on Lou: "While is wasn't exactly an in character attempt at a joke, this got a very nice chuckle out of me. Don't know why, but I almost picture Lou as not from the loathing world, but rather ours, at least in his understanding so far." Jay's overall points - 15 Also tied for seventh is Cattaras, who doesn't take any extra points here. Although it was cool following his training. Cattras had a fairly serious story but still had room for fun moments as well here. 12 points for Cattaras. And now the rest...
I'm just going to skip comments for the most part for overall scores here. :) Jay and Catrina join the list, Jay for the first time ever. Catrina for the first time in Season 2. Becky and Todd make notable small jumps here.
Sebastian Dash: 162 points
6-10 - the greats
11-15 - the mainstays
16-20 - Still doing great
21-25 - You're doing okay, really
