Season 3, mission #2 MISSION INFORMATION This is the out of character mission information and RP Notes for our "Rats and Bats" mission, and we get plenty of both and some to spare! This mission sees our new player's debut of Koumori along with a couple season three debuts from season 2 player characters as well!
Check out the notes on "Rats, Bats and other types of Vermin." MISSION INFO
Only piece missing notes:
This quest is not a split quest. Despite the title and premise, this is all a single mission. The goal is to stop the rats and bats from making trouble. There is no need to pre-title the RP title with Rats or Bats although if you feel justified in doing so, you can. The current plan is to have roleplaying go on about two months til the roleplay deadline. (Til late June.) That'll give me time to wrap things up with the voter and post the Finale, plus start a new mission, before my real life vacation at the end of July. I'll try to get information on Bonus Point Awards up here soon and edit it in. Since I don't want the Finale to take as long as this one did to write, I'm thinking I'll try harder to skip having to write the set-up scenes with characters. So if your character isn't in a good spot to go into the Final story, I'll probably 'time skip' forward in their story and let you fill in the blanks later. So hopefully I can get the Finale done without having to take a month or or more to write it. So we will probably be looking at a shorter Finale story this time around, too. But one that gets posted a little quicker. If you have questions on the mission or need ideas, feel free to post it here. Remember this mission is being handed out by the Council of Loathing. If you're not sure where to start, try to figure why your character would take part in this mission or how they'd get drawn into it. You could also start with a side story or a co-write and use that to involve your character in the game. This is all I really have to say. I'm going to be talking to some KOL players about trying to get more KOL minibosses into the Elite 8. If you wanna talk about that, feel free to post here. RP notes will go up next! That's it for now! Here's information on the first two awards. This mission focuses on two members of the Somber Six. Two KOL minibosses; the Boss Bat and Rat King. We want to encourage you to use either the minibosses themselves or their lackeys.
Two Points for "Best use of the Bat faction"
Using both factions in a single roleplay will make it eligible to win either of the two awards but not both. In other words, you can be eligible for one of the two awards by using the Boss Bat or Rat King in your story, or their army or bats or rats, or any allies of the two. This includes enemies you make up or write to be allies to the Bat and Rat. There's no specific way you have to use them. They might be an interlude, you might have them battling your heroes, or talking, or spying on your heroes. We'll have more information on the Somber Six on the boards in the near future; stay tuned for that. Each award will be given for a roleplay, battle, or ongoing storyline at the voter's discretion. Best Solo roleplay refers to any roleplay with only a character or characters from a single handler. If someone else writes with you but only uses their NPC's, it would count as a solo. Best Co-write refers to any roleplay with characters from at least two or more handlers. For example, if Bina and I write a story with her character (Mary Kate) and mine (Wildfall) in the same story, it would be a co-write, even if the two characters don't meet during the story. If Bina and I write together, but I only write for a NPC like one of Becky Joy's Goblins, it would count as a Mary Kate solo. If I write a story where my characters Becky Joy and Wildfall meet, it would count as my solo even though it uses two different player characters. There will be a First place award for each which is worth three points. Or you could win runner-up for Best Solo or Co-write, which is worth one point. As a reminder, there's no need to pre-title the RP title with Rats or Bats although if you feel justified in doing so, you can. Try to get the basic notes on the roleplay and anything the other players should know here. This section is not intended to be spoiler free. They run through the grass barefoot in the rain, but that proves unpleasant. Wildfall gets Mary to confront her fears about not being a good enough healer - and gets her to see that she is a great healer. Wildfall explains why he wants them to go over their story even though they don't intent to lie. They make their way to Degrassi where they end up splitting up. RP title: Grass is Greener "Do we really want to go on this mission?" is Sassy Snake's first story for this mission. First of many hopefully. It focuses on the four- Sassy, Linger, Icy and Bristle - asking the above question, although before that, Sassy also gets into it with a less than honest vendor and then buys berries from a seemingly more honest old woman. Then there's The Degrassi meet, which starts with Blackeagle interested in the stolen grass seed formula. However, they're quite suspicious when Wildfall and Mary pop into town, asking all sorts of questions. The four nearly get into a fight before sitting down to talk it out and realizing they're all on the same side. Mary is quite interested in the grass seed as well, wondering if it's already used for the grass near Seaside Town. Wildfall and Mary part companies, run into Fahari and Todd, and discuss religion and other details, with Todd still trying to flirt with Mary...... Things are going well.. til a massive horde of rats and flock of bats rushes the two, destroying and/ or stealing everything in their path.. and viciously attacking Grelva and Sassy. Linger, still at the bar, senses something's wrong and rushes off. He ends up saving the two women.. but Grelva passes away in the middle of the night while Sassy rests. (After giving Sassy the ring, which is the title for the story, obviously.) Sassy ends up deciding to go after the rats and bats to get vengeance... There is some more great interaction with the four. While Wildfall's off being taken care of, Fahari and Mary (joined by Naomi and Omar, who are tasked with guarding Mary) take on the bats, who retreat.. towards a handful of Muri-Dan (the hated rat furries) and Baron Von Ratsworth of the Sinister Six... Not much really to say right now other than he's a literal bat-man.. :P :ph43r: If anyone has any questions I'd be glad to answer though. The two want to help. Sassy isn't sure they'd be helpful for much but they prove their knowledge of the proper weapons to use in a cave- and where to buy them- could prove useful. So the heroes, minus Linger, buy new weapons nearby. They head to the cave. Linger stays outside to guard the spare unused weapons. The rest enter the cave, ready to raise some trouble in the bat-cave. Great job Sassy and great job everyone so far! Just that, really. Wildfall and Todd are going to get some food and Todd tries to keep Wildfall's mind off the pain he's in, so of course, Todd talks to him about his (Wildfall's) feelings about Mary. Wildfall has no idea what he's feeling for her. Mary isn't quite sure how she feels about him and asks Fahari for advice. Mary K vows to ask him how she feels. Later, after Todd and Fahari go off.. somewhere.. Wildfall and Mary bond as she tries to heal him- he's got a fever already- and he gets her to eat. They seem to skip out on discussing their feelings for each other for the moment. Heh.. she starts with dessert. tsk tsk The story is lengthy but pretty simple. Sassy's quartet are still travelling with Mole and Gem. They pick up a sound before the others. The sound of thousands of rats moving as a group towards them. Sassy and company retreat over some rocky grounds, but are sure the rats will be able to follow them. They set up camp. Eventually, Linger and Mole wake Sassy up after Mole seems to see something in the distance. Mole and Linger wake the others up.. and then Sassy sees a rather dignified rat coming under a white flag. The Baron, maybe? Who knows? Sassy doesn't trust rats. PS: Yeah, I said rather; I don't regret the pun. Heh. Mole masquerades as leader of the group to protect Sassy during the meeting and assigns them all fake names. Ratso, the aforementioned rat, always seems to know more than he lets on. He blames most of the trouble on the Rat King, saying he only has about sixty rats or so with him and the rest are the King's. Ratso asks for the leader of the group to come meet the Baron.. unarmed. Mole decides to take the chance and go. Later, Gem sneaks out, claiming she knows who is behind the Seaside attacks. She vows to stop him before he gets away. Sassy and the rest, of course, decide to set out to find her in the morning. I wonder what's next for Sassy? Wildfall wants to get out after a night's and morning's rest, but MaryKate isn't having it. She goes out and find Koumori, realizing the bat (furry) is injured, unable to fly. Koumori isn't sure what to make of her, and she offers her arm for him to feed on. Thankfully, he only takes a bit. Mary realizes the bat saliva numbed her pain and takes some to Wildfall to put on his arm. Wildfall whines about bat spit, but she gets her way and he starts feeling better almost immediately. Oh, except for the side effects. Dizziness and maybe nausea. Wildfall goes to sleep it off while Mary decides to read some books while she watches him. I'll just copy them from the AIL newsletter. :D
(Gem) A Gem of a Precious Story basically focuses on Gem returning to town to confront Mr King, who she believes was behind the deal of the elderly merchant Grelva. Certainly looks like Mr King might be behind it, but Gem's going to have a hard time proving that with a shotgun aimed at her head. Luckily, Bris is on the way.. great lil story on this one!
There's three steps here, per the title. First Icy has to get firebrand berries off their bush without destroying their bush - but they burn if you touch them while they're still on the vine. Icy uses the ribbon from her hair to get them off to earn some firebrand gloves that'll let her pick the berries directly off the bush. She then has to deal with opening Sassy's throcklefruit, which she eventually figures out. Then there's a final test where Icy gets a box with nine things that look like stones. Only 3 are stones. She has two minutes to figure which three are berries and which three are nuts to be cracked open. She then has to deliver the rest to Sassy. She passes this test with seven seconds to spare. Sassy then gives her a belt pouch and a mantle for passing her test, and a necklace with several valuable gems just because she's pretty, I guess. I'm not sure where Sassy got all these goodies, but afterwards, she shows Icy a wooden throne that will be hers to rest and study from. Sassy grabs Linger; they intend to head to the tavern next. Also, since she's a doser now, Icy changes her name to Crystal Ice, per tradition, which is a neat little bonus for the story. After getting into some antics, Sgirl and Becky try to stop SGirl's obtuse angel Bingo from trying to start trouble. But he spills pots of water over a bunch of people, including an elderly woman who ends up being one of their mentors from their time down south. The mentor informs the girls that the rats and bats plan to revive Lord Spookyraven to make him a part of the Somber Six, and asks the girls to try to stop it. The girls want to stop it, but will they? Maybe in the finale haha. Congratulations, everyone!! If the new mission isn't up now, it will be soon. (It's not. It will be soon, haha.) I'm going to have to keep comments brief which sucks, because we scored another really impressive mission, roleplaying wise. The next mission roleplaying will be a little shorter this time so make sure you write for it soon, everyone. Season three is going quite well, I'm happy to say! And this time, we got to deal with.. Rats, Bats and other types of Vermin! A'yup! This one has a handful of awards, but the voter and I added another reward here! A single point award for Best RP title!! Let's get to the scorecard! Remember, awards don't affect rankings in the mission, only the season 3 rankings. We'll start with mission rankings. I gotta keep these short due to lack of time IRL. Congratulations, Mary! This Ireacan lass, the first and only character from our new handler Binajane, debut early on during the last mission. Voter Ichiro commented she was a consistent contributor and called her overall work "great," saying that "every roleplay she was in was great," giving special mention to "Mary Kate's Amazing First Solo" and "Battywompus." "Battywompus" won the award for "Best use of the Bat faction," giving two points EACH to Wildfall, Mary Kate, Todd and Fahari. The voter cited the bats using their unique features to their advantage. So that's two more for Mary. "When Bats and Rats attack" earned two more points for Mary, not just for Wildfall and Blackeagle. The voter admired the sneakiness rather than the combat for this one. It got best use of the Rats faction. Finally, "The Love Adviser(s)" earn THREE points each for best co-write for Mary, Fahari, Todd and Wildfall. Ichiro: "The fun piece of contrast and parallels."
Mary earns 28 points for winning, and total of 7 more points from awards.
Wildfall takes second place! The voter noted while his work was good, it was more 'subdued' than usual, in part because of the injury he suffered early on. But that was a big part of the award for best use of the bat faction. Ichiro: "Those swarms actually managed to have some lasting damage on a hero."
Wildfall - 26 points for winning.
Wildfall total - 33 points! Also tied for second place - Todd Blackpaws and Fahari They're complimented on being "tons of fun" in votes. Especially acting as confidants in "the Love Advisers." BOTH receive...
26 points from voter...
TODD & FAHARI each get 31 points.. each! Another good voter quote: "She still has fun RPs that reads in incredibly interesting ways...." Sassy gets 25 points PLUS 1 point for runner up - Best solo for (Sassy's new ring) Ichiro: "This piece was really sweet. Following up on a prior piece, it managed to give me everything I wanted from the original piece and then some. Did a good job of bringing the bat and rat factions in as well." SASSY - 26 points total! "Shinobi" obviously wins best solo. Voter comments? Sure! "There is so much in this little introduction piece. So much is learned about the character, most of which isn't even directly stated, but instead implied by the rest of the writing. By the end I felt like I had learned so much about Koumori, but wanted to learn even more." He only had a fairly small bit of writing this mission compared to others.. but he earns..
23 points, tied for sixth..
ALSO tied for fifth is Blackeagle, who continue to improve as the voter notes. He is fond of Blackeagle's unique voices. They're also in "When Bats and Rats attack" which earns Best use of Rats for two more points...
Blackeagle: 23 points, +2 more...
Shelldor for his stories being "incredibly silly and fun.." Shelldor: 22 points. Aleena and Catrina get 22 each for driving points of "Dramatic title here!!" Catrina also earns +1 point for runner up best co-write. Catrina: 23 points.
Aleena earns +1 point for the same, but she also gets +1 point since she posted it- and it earned her +1 more point for best RP title for (Dramatic Title Here!!)
Finally.. tied for last... Ichiro - "20 – Dash, Becky, SpaghettiGirl. All three character listed here had solid pieces, but so many strong pieces being written sorta drowned them out this time. I hope to see more (from) all in the future."
Becky - 20 points
Dash gets 20 points +1 bonus point for being in best co-write (runner up) for (Dramatic Title Here!!)
